Startup Hark, founded less than a year ago by serial entrepreneur Brett Adcock, has announced the wide release of Hark Pro. The AI-powered personal assistant is designed to act as an operating system for computers, executing digital tasks directly on behalf of users. Available for free with a paid subscription tier for heavy users, the software enters a competitive landscape alongside rival assistant projects like Muse, Instinct, and Dots.

Led by former Apple designer Abidur Chowdhury, Hark Pro features a full-screen interface with a central chat dialog, custom background imagery, and mini-dashboard visualizations called panels. Users grant the assistant access to their email, calendar, hard drive, and credit cards. The AI then proactively handles tasks such as approving expenses, drafting emails, and booking flights. To build user trust, the interface displays a small window showing exactly how the agent navigates the web to complete these actions.

Unlike frontier large language models designed for general knowledge, Hark's underlying model is trained specifically for computer use. This specialization makes the assistant faster and cheaper when executing digital workflows, though it remains to be seen how much general capability is sacrificed. Crucially, Hark pitches itself as a privacy-first alternative to platforms from Meta or OpenAI, promising not to sell user data or build invasive profiles.

For developers and practitioners, Hark Pro represents a shift toward agentic workflows where AI operates software directly rather than just generating text. The company plans to expand this ecosystem in 2027 with the release of a novel, AI-native hardware device designed to support its software. By proving that an agent can reliably handle complex, multi-step web transactions end-to-end, Hark aims to transition personal computing away from traditional keyboard-and-terminal inputs.
